Robofest – Kinoull Hill, Perth

One of Paligap’s dealers, Fife Cycles were putting on an end of season, fun, grassroots race at a local hill just outside Perth. I was asked if I could go up and attend and with me I took a beautiful weekend of sunny weather to Perth !! Kinoull hill I gather has been a venue on the Scottish racing calendar for many years. It’s only a small hill, with an easy push back up to the top. No one minded the push as it was the only way to keep warm as it was sunny but very, very cold !! For a woodland right on the side of the town it was a great little venue. The track wiggled down the hill over loads of tricky roots, berms and jumps and a lot of pedalling along the way !

The atmosphere was fantastic all weekend. There were people in fancy dress costumes and towards the end of practice on Saturday the jump section turned into a little jump jam with quite a crowd gathering !

I had great fun and it was good to be out playing on my bike again. I did the race and won the women’s category in a time of 1.30 ahead of Lynne Aitchinson. The men’s race was won by Joe Barnes with a time of 1.20.

Thanks to everyone that helped put on this event. It was great fun and good to see people just out having fun on their downhill bikes. I think this short course with an easy push up could be the way forward for some more affordable grassroots racing in the future.
