World Cup 3 – Fort William
Finally after 6 wet Fort William world cups we were treated to some absolutely fabulous weather this year. Many of the riders have never seen the view from the start line and the camera’s were out all week capturing just how beautiful this part of the world is when the sun is out !
I was still trying to shake off my cold which was doing it’s best just to drag on as long as possible. However I was feeling ok on my bike. The track hard as it was so dry and dusty that some of the corners were so loose and a couple of the long straights were getting so rough as the holes were just getting bigger everyday ! Although we didn’t have to contend with the rain and mud this year we still had a very demanding track with quite a lot of wind on race day. The atmosphere at this race was once again amazing as the finish area and the whole track were full of fans cheering everyone on, with a bit of extra cheering for any British riders !!
I had a busy week doing quite a lot of media work, with interviews on Radio 4, Radio 2 and Radio 5 Live. It was great to see so the mainstream media taking interest in our sport and we have to thank Nissan for really pushing to get some of these interviews on the radio.
Practice was going well for me, I was riding as fast as I had been at the SDA race a few weeks ago in practice and I knew I could go faster in sections. I qualified in 1st place after having to go back up and do a re run as I was red flagged in the first run. This was great for my confidence to know I was on the right pace. I just had to try and find a few extra seconds in the final. Thankfully I did manage to push and find another 6 seconds to take the win from Sabrina Jonnier with a time of 5.20, 4 secs ahead. It felt so good to be back on top of the world cup podium and there is no better place to win a race, but in front of a home crowd. It was an amazing experience again and just a great confidence boost for my riding for the next few weeks.
Next stop for me is the World Championships in Italy in 2 weeks.
